Giclée Prints

Digital Printing, or the Giclée (zhee-CLAY) Printing, has become a popular method of reproducing fine art because of the quality, longevity and beauty of the final product.

A Giclée is an individually produced, high-resolution, high-fidelity reproduction done on a special large format printer. Giclées are produced from digital scans of existing artwork.  They can be printed on any number of media, from canvas to watercolor paper to transparent acetates, and are superior to traditional lithography in several ways.

Giclées use inkjet technology, but far more sophisticated than your desktop printer.  The ink is sprayed onto the page, actually mixing the inks on the page to create true colors.  Our printer uses only pigmented inks and archival paper.  This combination is tested to last up to 100 years.

The gorgeous reproduction, on high quality, heavy paper make the product affordable to a larger number of people and sometimes difficult to determine the difference between the print and the original.  That is why most reproduced images are of a different size than the original painting.

We are using Hahnemuhle German Etching paper for Drummond Giclées.  It is a heavy-weight paper with a texture much like traditional watercolor paper.
